The Meru Farmers Cooperative Union is set to build a high-rise office block at the Meru Safari Hotel car-park-ground next to the famous Kamunde hall.
The modern office block is just one among structures that the union is planning to build in Meru town. The largest cooperative Union in Meru county is said to be diversifying into the real estate business. Traditionally it has been involved in pooling farmers' resources and then investing on behalf of its members.
The diversification drive will also see the union build a shopping Mall at Gitimbine just at the entrance of Meru town. Christened "Avenue Mall" it will be the first of its kind in Meru county.
Apart from real estate and commerce, the union is also intending to invest in petrol stations. It will also set up a coffee processing plant.
