Meru county's land mass is 25% forest which makes it one of the best covered counties. With such a huge forest, Meru is not staring at Desertification any time soon.
The total land area on which Meru county sits is 6936.2 kilometers squared. The area that is gazetted forest is 1776.1 km². Most of the forested land is covered with trees and bushes.
Shamba system is still practiced in most parts of the county. This means that locals grow crops for domestic use in the forest. Food grown in the forest grows throughout the year since the conditions are perfect.
