A faction of Njuri Ncheke led by Phares Ruetere is in trouble for installing non-Merus as elders. A group led by Josephat Murangiri, which claims to be the legitimate leadership of the council of elders, now wants the Phares Rutere faction to pay a fine. Phares Rutere was ousted as chairman of Njuri Ncheke earlier this year but he went ahead and formed a splinter group.
The fine will include an unspecified number of bulls and goats. Some of the bulls will be slaughtered for the elders to eat. The elder-ship bestowed upon the two will also be revoked. Muammar Gaddafi was killed over an year ago in Libya after is government was overthrown by rebels. Kamlesh Pattni is still doing business in Kenya although he had to surrender some of his assets to the government because of the infamous goldenberg scandal.
Leadership wrangles at the Njuri Ncheke Council of Elders have intensified since the ouster of Mr. Rutere. The installation of people who are not from Meru as elders of the council is certainly poised to aggravate the wrangles
