A legislator at the Meru County Assembly,  Al Haji Mwendia Muguna, has faulted Meru county government's plan to build a 15-storey office complex in Meru town. The high-rise building is set to be built on the Tuntu Estate grounds. Demolition of houses on the County-government-owned Estate has already started.

Demolition of houses to make way for the building
The vocal MCA has decried the manner in which the project was planned and passed at the county assembly. According to Al Haji, the building was not in the integrated development plan and the Kshs 200 million allocated to it in the current financial year was sneaked into the budget through blackmail. The County assembly was forced to accept the allocation by governor Peter Munya as a condition to assent to the budget and appropriations bill 2015.

Now Mr. Alhaji wants more details about the project to be availed to the public. The details he wants clarified include the ownership of the building, whether it is being built as a partnership and who the partners or shareholders are and  the county government's stake in the project. He also wants to know the fate of residents who had rented houses at Tuntu estate.
