Robbers broke into Meru Governor Peter Munya’s home on Sunday night. A car battery was stolen from the home located in Kaaga just outside Meru town. The robbers cut through a chain link fence, unlocked the vehicle and took the battery according to the county communications director, Simon Kobia.

Residence caretaker George Nteere said he carried the keys to the Governor’s vehicle when he went to sleep. It was only when the driver tried to start the vehicle the following morning that he realised the battery was missing.

Simon Kobia said police are investigating the incident. however, he and county Lands executive Martin Bikuri said the robbery was intended to "sabotage the county government. The Governor has called upon residents to be patient as police complete investigations.

This is not the first incident of its kind. Recently, offices of Lands and ICT departments were broken into and documents and computers stolen. It is not clear whether the two incidents are related.
