Governor Peter Munya has castigated Senator Kiraitu Murungi for blocking road construction in Meru county. He termed Kiraitu's actions as unfortunate.
Senator Kiraitu Murungi had earlier suggested that the Meru county government was borrowing money to build roads under the Probase project without guarantees from the National government. However the governor has denied claims that his government is borrowing to finance the project.
The governor indicated that the role of his government in the project is just to concession the contractor. "There is no contract between the county government and any bank." said the governor. The contractor (Probase) is the one borrowing. "Therefore the county government concessions Probase who then go ahead and borrow to finance the project." he added. He was speaking at a function where he was hosted by the elders of the Igoki clan in Imenti south sub county
The governor is expected to address the Meru County assembly on Thursday 3rd December to explain this position in detail.
