A popular blogger was arrested in Meru over the weekend. Cyprian Nyakundi is one of the most followed Kenyans on Twitter. He has earned himself the title "Twitter bigwig" a name given to influential people on the micro-blogging site.

He is said to have escaped to Meru on realizing that CID officers were pursuing him. The blogger is alleged to have posted controversial tweets about Safaricom CEO Bobcollymore.

It is not the first time that Nyakundi has rubbed Safaricom the wrong way. In June the telecommunications giant sued him for what it called defamatory articles that he published about its operations.

He has been transferred to Parklands police station from where he might be charged if the police find enough grounds to do so.
